The 2014 Prudential US Figure Skating Championships
The Hero’s Journey
January 9, 2014 (Thursday)
7:00PM @ TD Garden
It was a special night at the TD Garden as the Skating Club of Boston hosted the US Figure Skating Championships. The opening ceremonies that were held commemorated 100 years of figure skating in America as well as the formation of the US Figure Skating Championships. On hand in the event were America’s best and brightest skaters who paid tribute, in their own way, to the trailblazers during the opening ceremonies.
The event was dubbed ‘The Hero’s Journey.’ It featured acrobats doing their stuff; dancers expressing art through movement; and skaters making creative and expressive cuts on the ice. It showcased the best of what the ice athletes can do, also honoring the everyday struggles of today’s common men and women as they go about making mini-successes and bucking small losses that happen day in and day out.
The event was hosted by none other than Nancy Chen, who was designated as a special host during that night. Fans that flocked the event were treated to a double-event. Immediately after the program, the US Figure Skating Championships were under way. Wasting no time at all, the Championship Ladies’ Short Program was commenced. This championship is a significant competition. Women skaters—some of them the best of the best—vie for limited spots up for grabs. The lucky ones became a part of the Team USA figure skating team competing in international tournaments.
It was truly a great night for Boston and for figure skating as well.
