As reported by Bay Windows. Pioneering gay student athlete says schools must protect all students. Years after drawing national attention for coming out while serving as co-captain of his high school football team, Middleton native Corey Johnson told attendees at the annual conference of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network of Boston (GLSEN Boston), that his own visit to the conference a decade ago was instrumental in his decision to come out publicly.
Speaking to a crowd of youth, teachers and administrators gathered at Jamaica Plain’s English High School on May 1 Johnson recalled traveling to that year’s conference on the Tufts University campus on a bus with his school’s gay/straight alliance (GSA), but the Masconomet Regional High School student sat as far away from the GSA kids as possible for fear that people would think he was gay. In the News: As reported by Alexandra E. Zimbler of the Harvard Crimson, Five Crimson athletes spoke at a panel last night to discuss queerness and athletics at Harvard in front of an audience of about 30 people in Sever Hall.
Harvard College Women’s Center intern Kameron A. Collins ’09 hosted the seminar after coming up with the idea for his senior project. “I thought it was really important to start talking about gay athletes at Harvard,” Collins said. “It is more liberal [here] in some ways and I wanted to see if that would also be true in the locker room.” Read the entire story here.

The Site Selection Committee for the Federation of Gay Games was pleased to announce they have received three exciting bids to host Gay Games IX in 2014. These bids have come from the following cities:
Boston – presented by Boston 2014
Cleveland – presented by Cleveland Synergy Foundation
Washington, D.C. – presented by Metropolitan Washington Gaymes, Inc.
The bid documents can be viewed here. Boston is very excited and preparing for the next steps including questions, site visits and a presentation in Koln, Germany in late September.
